The Asian honeybee (Apis cerana) is the native host of the Varroa mite. Here a young Asian nurse bee becomes infested with Varroa mites when assisting an infested drone to emerge from its cell.
SUPPORT US
Bees Downunder is dedicated to advancing research on bee health in Australia.
Presently, Federal and State Governments partner with honeybee-related industries, such as the Australian Beekeeping and Horticultural Industries, to support research on honeybee health.
However, these efforts primarily target immediate and short-term problems. While commendable, they are not enough to support long-term research on threats to our honeybees and our home-grown native bees.
This is where Bees Downunder helps out.
We form partnerships with private-sector companies/entities to support long-term research on honeybees and native bees.
Our private-sector partners sell products and donate a percentage of profits to the Bees Downunder cause. Donations are kept in-trust by the partners until they, and Bees Downunder, mutually identify appropriate research to support.
Bees Downunder warmly welcomes new partners on board.

Cash donations are also welcome. For more information on how to further support bee research please email bees@beesdownunder.com
